Hawley's Got Talent

Many of you will know from the children that Polly Goddard, one of our pupils in Year 6, was diagnosed shortly before the half term holiday with leukaemia. Since this time Polly has been receiving chemotherapy treatment and we hope that she will soon be on the road to a full recovery! Polly is well known in our school for her positive, sunny approach to school and life and as a result is well known across the school for organising activities for others to enjoy. Several of her friends have been inspired by her to raise money for a special charity, The Little Princess Trust, which supports children and their families who are undertaking treatment for leukaemia. For the past 2 years children in Year 5/6 have organised a fun ‘Hawley’s Got Talent’ afternoon for children in KS2, in which Polly was always eager to participate. This year the event was organised by some of Polly’s close friends and all the children participating or attending as the audience were asked to make a minimum donation of 50p towards the Little Princess Trust for the privilege. The competition was judged in true 'Britain's Got Talent' by Mrs Galpin, Mrs Flower and Miss Read and was a huge success, ending Ellie, Hollie, Aimee and Ruby having 7 inches of their hair cut off to be donated to the charity to make wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy. At the end of the day, children in Year 5 and 6 organised a cake sale on the playground selling a variety of delicious homemade cakes and the proceeds from this and the afternoons entertainment was an amazing total of £404.69 was raised! Well done everyone!
