Year 4 Visit the Gordon Brown Centre

GB3 GB2
GB1 For three glorious sunny days in May, our year 4 children experienced their first school residential visit at the Gordon Brown Centre in Rotherwick. During their stay they enjoyed orienteering, bush craft and pond dipping and some even slept in tippees. As always the children made us all very proud with their excellent behaviour and manners. Well done Year 4.

Thank you for your tremendous support for Comic Relief day and Hawley's Got Talent! A total of £409.55 was raised on the day in addition to £300 raised through the purchase of red noses. Half of the proceeds went to Comic Relief and half to the Magical Taxi Tour Charity which takes terminally ill children to Disneyland Paris. The children were delighted with their efforts ; a huge thank you goes to Ruby Britten, Brogan Eppey, Anisha Riggs and Skye Gourley for organising Hawley’s Got Talent and to Matthew Hannon, Oliver Dyne, Zack Lanes and their team for organising the sponsored event on the field and the selling of noses! Well done to Nathan Sweet who managed to stay silent and to Farrah Maddox who bounced around school on her space hopper ALL DAY! Everyone had a great day and all for a good cause too!

Gremlin Dance Challenge

Gremlin 1 Gremlin 2

On Thursday 14th March a team of Hawley Street Dancers took part in the Gremlin Dance Challenge at the Princes Hall in Aldershot competing against dance troups from other schools in the area. They had practised their routine during their Dance Club sessions in the Spring term and were confident with their moves. Even though they didn't win any awards, they did a superb job on the night and made Miss Paskell and Miss Prince very proud. Well done to Holly, Sophie, Farrah, Lara, Charlotte, Abby, Demi, Ellie, Gamu, Ella, Lorriane and Martha.

Chess Tournament

Delancy UK Schools’ Chess Challenge 2013

For the fourth year running, Hawley Primary School has taken part in the Delancy UK Schools’ Chess Challenge. This school based tournament takes place during the Spring term and this year thirty six children, from Year 2 to Year 6, played one game of chess a week for seven weeks. They were given 3 points for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss. Each week they had to play someone they had not played before, who had the same number of points. The children were awarded a badge when they achieved 3 points and a gold spot on the badge for every 3 points after that. They could also win a furry mascot at 11 points and a shaggy pencil at 15 points. Anyone getting 17 or more points qualified for a regional Megafinal, to be held in May, when the children get to play children from other schools in their year group.

Congratulations to our winners this year:

First                     Liam Mynard with 20 out of a possible 21 points

Second                  Leon Cooper with 19 points

Joint Third           George Cooper and Joshua Mills with 17 points each
