EARA Equality Rights Advocate Group

The EARA group at Hawley Primary School is made up of pupils from Years 2–6. We meet twice a month to promote belonging, equality, and diversity across our school community. Our role is to listen carefully to the voices of all pupils and represent their ideas, ensuring everyone at Hawley feels heard and valued.
As an EARA group, we champion the Rights of the Child and uphold the British Values in everything we do. We celebrate what makes each of us unique and encourage everyone in our school to be their best selves. Although we are all different at Hawley, we are one big family. We all belong, and we all matter.

Our Work at School and Beyond
The EARA group have been actively engaged in a wide range of meaningful projects this year. In the Autumn term, pupils took part in a Pupil Learning Walk to explore the theme of Belonging at Hawley. Working in small groups, they spoke with a sample of children across the school to find out whether they feel a sense of belonging at Hawley and how the school environment supports this.
As part of their commitment to promoting kindness and respect, the group also led an anti‑bullying campaign. They planned and delivered an assembly that helped pupils recognise what bullying is, understand how to seek help, and learn how we can all contribute to a safe and caring school community.
To strengthen their work on inclusion, EARA representatives have visited other schools in the area to share ideas and learn from the approaches used by other EARA groups. These visits are helping our pupils explore how belonging, equality, and diversity are promoted in different settings and bring back inspiring strategies to enrich practice at Hawley.
Hawley’s EARA group is currently focusing on identifying the wide range of nationalities represented in each class. They are thinking carefully about how every culture and identity can be meaningfully represented in classrooms and across the entire school community, ensuring that all children at Hawley feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
In addition, the EARA group are linking the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) with Hawley’s Golden Rules. They are helping their peers understand how our rights are upheld when we follow the Golden Rules and how this also connects to British Values in everyday school life.
Their latest project involves undertaking another Pupil Learning Walk to explore the Cultural Capital of families at Hawley. They aim to discover more about the rich and varied cultures within our school community and consider how we can celebrate these in ways that are meaningful, respectful, and enjoyable for all.
