School Council
Children from Year 1 to Year 6 come together with pride to meet, talk and listen to make our school a better place. There are nine School Council representatives from each class, who are democratically elected by their peers.
The children make a presentation to their classmates, explaining the reasons why they would like to be chosen. The class votes and this information is shared with the school as a whole.
To be a school council member you need to be:
-
Have good ideas to engage the whole school community
-
Be kind and helpful so that everyone feels happy.
-
Display good teamwork skills
-
Listen and take turns to speak to share your opinions and ideas.
-
Mature, you are a role-model for your peers.
-
Ready and adaptable – Mrs Baker may want us to do different jobs at different times.
-
Have good manners at all times
-
Confidence. You may have to speak with people who are from outside our school community, so show confidence in your role and your abilities.
"Our ideas get presented to the school and this makes me very happy." Aria, Y4
"Our discussion is valued by Mrs Baker. This makes me feel happy that I am being heard." Eliza, Y6

What has our School Council done this year?
School Council loves helping children and adults in our school community and beyond. This is what we have achieved so far this year:
- Pupil Voice activities such as writing the Curriculum Statement and child-friendly Behaviour Policy
- Talking with visitors about online safety and what makes a friendly playground space
- Talking with our Governors about being safe at school
- Organising our annual creative Eisteddfod event
- Helping our friends at Yateley Pantry foodbank to support families in need
We are always up for a challenge!
